Congratulations to Dr. Trina Davis, KATE Co-Principal Investigator, for the Board of Regent's recent approval of her tenure and promotion to Associate Professor. Dr. Davis is a faculty member in the mathematics education program at TAMU. She is excited about her ongoing research focused on teaching and learning in 3-D virtual environments. The KATE team would like to publicly congratulate Dr. Glenn Allen Phillips, who successfully defended his dissertation on June 6, 2014.  His work, "Peering Through the Fog: A Proposal for Veteran Critical Theory" is a first step towards developing a critical theory that considers veterans (specifically student veterans) as a special population. We designed and developed a virtual classroom environment using the Second Life platform (Davis, 2012). Our KATE virtual learning environment (VLE) includes smaller group learning spaces, as well as, a larger interactive virtual classroom. Preservice teachers (PSTs) enrolled in the [redesigned] MASC 351 course, design and deliver instruction in one of the many virtual learning spaces or in the larger classroom, as they address equity in algebra learning. Gagne Award for Graduate Student Research in Instructional Design, at the 2012 Annual AECT Conference held in Louisville, KY..
